One of Luton’s most famous sons – Greg Whyte OBE – wowed the audience at a Putteridge Bury business breakfast last week when he was introduced as Age Concern Luton’s new patron.

The former Ashcroft pupil, who’s made more than £33 million for charity through his work with Sport and Comic Relief, said it was a real honour to be invited to spearhead a fundraising campaign for the town’s leading charity.

The sold-out business breakfast was his first appearance in his new role.

Greg turned to ACL after his mother died and his father struggled to cope on his own. The sports supremo was knocked out by their wonderful service and offered to help in any way he could.

His riveting speech – based on his latest book, Achieve the Impossible – contained many amusing anecdotes about his work coaching celebrities like David Walliams to take part in charity challenges.
