A Luton sports legend has been awarded an OBE in the New Year’s Honours List.

Former Olympic pentathlete Professor Greg Whyte, 46, has been given the award for services to sport, sport science and charity.

The ex-Ashcroft High pupil has enjoyed an illustrious academic career since finishing his sporting exploits.

He has published over 200 peer reviewed papers and eight books in the fields of sport, exercise science and medicine.

He is also a professor in Applied Sport & Exercise Science at Liverpool John Moores University
